  • Susan Korrel created a new topic Hi! in the forums.
Had an email sitting in my in-box for about a week to remind me to get around to signing up; and finally - here I am. A quick peek at the photos showed me lots of names I already know.

About me - I'm a environmental consultant, way too much left-brain activity happens at work. I have a hubby and almost-teen daughter. I've been quilting for about 12 years, and don't really have a lot to show for all that time!

I like bright, jewel-like colours. The opal is my favourite stone, and my choice of colour reflects that. I used to do exclusively patchwork, then ventured into applique. Now nearly all my quilts have some applique or other embellishment. I love the magic of patchwork though; the simple process that leads to complex design. I love 3D illusion quilts, like Hidden Wells.

I'm currently on a 5 day break, having worked all last weekend. I realised last night that one of the reasons for my lack creativity is the left-brained-ness of my work; it's too hard to switch at night to right brain creativity. I guess I need to find some sort of trigger; a right-brain activity I can do on the train on the way home maybe.

My current project LOL! I'm turning a faithful, old set of flannelette sheets into cleaning cloths. Four layers of worn flanno, overlocked together, makes for beautifully soft cleaning rags. And gives me something to practice my overlocking on LOL.

Maybe before my break is over I'll do some "real" sewing.

My favourite shop is The Quilters' Store, which used to be in Auckenflower. I know how to get to it in its new location, but I wouldn't have a clue what the address is. It shares the store with The Embroiders' Store, which is wonderful when you do a lot a embellishment like I do.
Although it's my favourite store, I tend to spend more money at Spotlight. I do a fair bit of dressmaking type sewing, so the range of fabrics other than quilting is the lure. My favourite cheap fabric store is Bargain Box.
My closest store is about 20 minutes drive, which is why Spotlight tends win - because of the variety. However, I actively avoid building a stash (I know, I'm odd), so I often find myself driving all over town to find 'just what I want' anyway.
